Background on Jikiden Reiki.
Reiki has become more popular in the western world. As it has spread, some practitioners have added to it and changed it. Sascha Mora has taken courses in traditional and western Reiki. They both offer healing benefits, but have differences. Jikiden Reiki is based on a traditional, Japanese form of Reiki.
Reiki has likely been around for centuries, but the modern version of it was founded in the early 20th century in Japan by a Sensei named Mikao Usui. During his lifetime, he taught Dr. Chujiro Hayashi, a naval officer and medical doctor, among others. Dr. Hayashi was one of Usui Sensei’s original 22 “Shihans” or teachers. Dr. Hayashi then taught it to his extended family in Ishikawa, Japan in the 1930s.
In 1938, one of these students was a young woman named Chiyoko Yamaguchi, who was 17 years old. She practiced and later taught Reiki in Japan until she died in 2003. She and her son Tadao Yamaguchi, were co-founders of the Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai.
The word “Jikiden” means “directly handed down in Japanese. Jikiden Reiki is closely aligned with the Reiki Gokai (principles for health and happiness). The Jikiden Institute and its Association here in the United States support the traditional practice of this simple, effective and original form of Usui Reiki.
Jikiden Reiki does not align with any religion or particular spiritual practice. Instead, it enhances and supports the spiritual beliefs, if any, of its practitioner
There are many levels of Jikiden Reiki. Sascha Mora offers the first two levels, which will allow you to perform Jikiden Reiki on yourself and others.
Jikiden Reiki first level Shoden:
In Jikiden Reiki Shoden a student
Receives three Reiju (attunements) in a two or three day seminar
Receives a Jikiden Reiki manual
Hears about the history of Reiki and of Mikao Usui its founder’s life
Hears about the history of Jikiden Reiki and the Yamaguchi family
Learns the meaning of the Japanese kanji in the word Reiki
Learns the objectives and focus of Jikiden Reiki
Hears, says following the teacher, and can learn the Gokai – the five Reiki Principles in Japanese
Does Reiki Mawashi (a method used to feel the Reiki energy flowing and to give feedback to others in the seminar)
Learns about the concept of Byosen
Learns some of Reiki’s uses and methods
Learns and uses the first Shirushi or symbol
Learns and practices Ketsueki Kokan (blood circulation technique)
Does Reiki Okuri (another method used to feel the Reiki energy flowing)
Learns Hatsurei-Ho (a method used to practice Reiki at home)
Has Reiki practice and exchange with their Teacher and other students
Receives a certificate from his/her Teacher in either English or his/her own language
Receives a Jikiden Reiki Seminar Attendance Record card stamped by his/her Teacher
Through the Teacher also receives a certificate in Japanese from the Jikiden Reiki Institute
Jikiden Reiki second level Okuden:
In Jikiden Reiki Okuden a student
Receives two additional Reiju (attunements) in a one or two day seminar
Hears, says following the teacher, and can learn the Gokai – the five Reiki Principles in Japanese
Does Reiki Mawashi (a method used to feel the Reiki energy flowing and to give feedback to others in the seminar)
Does Reiki Okuri (another method used to feel the Reiki energy flowing)
Reviews the Kokai Denju from the notes of Mikao Usui from the Jikiden Reiki manual
Learns the second Jikiden Reiki shurushi or symbol and use and practices the mental/emotional treatment.
Learns the Jikiden Reiki method of distant (enkjaku) healing and the Jikiden Reiki distant jumon or mantra and practices healing in the class
Reviews the elements of both Shoden and Okuden
Receives a certificate from his/her Teacher in either English or his/her own language indicating
completion of Shoden or Shoden and Okuden
Gets his/her Jikiden Reiki Seminar Attendance Record card stamped by the Teacher
Through the Teacher also receives a certificate in Japanese from the Jikiden Reiki Instute (Jikiden Reiki Kenkyukai)
